Aspide Table Lamp

Aspide is a table lamp designed by Gianfranco Frattini and produced by the Gubi brand.

Developed in 1970, Aspide is a table lamp that resembles no other lamp before or since, a perfect embodiment of the materials and aesthetic tastes of its time. It takes its name from the Italian word ‘aspide’, in reference to its sinuous, snake-like shape. A gleaming chrome coating gives it a mirrored surface that reflects the light from the lamp itself, giving it a feeling of preciousness and playfulness.

Like many of Frattini’s works, the Aspide table lamp perfectly encapsulates the belief that aesthetics must be rooted in the fusion of function with the materials and methods that led to its construction. Its organic form and sculptural beauty devoid of superfluous elements are the result of process and function, proving that purpose-driven industrial design can produce a work of art. Consisting of large curved iron tubes mounted on a specially designed steel shaft, the neck and head of the lamp can rotate seamlessly around its own axis up to 350, with an integrated stop, allowing both sides of the lamp to be adjusted, directing the light where it is needed. Ideal in an office, living room, or bedroom, Aspide will bring elegance to any setting.
